One year ago, the House of Representatives made history and voted to pass the For the People Act. It’s the most comprehensive and progressive set of democracy reforms ever seen introduced before Congress. The For the People Act is historic because no structural democracy reform bill has ever had unanimous support within the Democratic caucuses in both the House and the Senate, although it was far from easy to achieve that support.
We have a new baseline on so many issues -- stopping big money in politics, protecting every voter’s right to be heard, demanding ethical and accountable government, and ending gerrymandering -- thanks to the For the People Act. We have to fight to pass the same strong reform in 2021 to make sure it is a priority for the House, and the Senate.
